12012 PINE OAK

The Oak Leaf, Pine Oak, and Holly prints are from plates used to illustrate a rare botanical treatise entitled “L’Histoire des Arbred Forestiers de L’Amerique”, written by Francois Andre-Michaux, who, with is botanist father, Andre Michaux, undertook one of the earliest studies of the forest of North America. Noted French botanical artist Pierre Joseph Redoute was the illustrator of these plates. These plates were taken from Volume 2. The original three-volume set was first published in Paris by L. Hausmann in 1811.
