large format scanning

     The Archival Image has acquired a state-of-the-art scanning back camera.

     This instrument is capable of capturing large maps, documents, tapestries and other large two-dimensional items, and combines the best of both worlds by providing the advantages of high-resolution, real-time capture of any image through the control of a 4x5 reproduction camera.

     This should not be confused with professional, hand-held cameras. Our scanning back camera is hundreds of times more powerful than the best professional digital cameras. With this unique piece of equipment we can also produce images of three-dimensional objects, such as vases and other artifacts. It is also capable of producing 360-degree panoramas of rooms, buildings, and landscapes.

     The Archival Image can scan single photos or entire collections of photographs and produce a master, high-resolution image file and any number of working files to suit your institution's needs. rare books and manuscripts

     Here at the Archival Image, we have designed and built a custom book cradle for imaging bound material. We have experience with rare documents and books and can provide beautiful images of rare material for educational purposes, access, insurance reference files and websites. This service can be rendered here at our studio or your institution.

glass plate negatives

     The best way to scan glass plate negatives is to image them without placing them on a glass platen. We have designed and machined custom fixtures to accommodate a wide array of sizes including 16x18 in. plates, lantern slides and all common format sizes. Our capabilities can easily be customized to provide your institution with the service you are seeking to access your glass archives.
